I read a new article on Al Jazeera News about Facebook deleting "tens of thousands" of accounts and making changes to its newsfeed in an attempt to fight fake news, responding to criticism over the distribution of false information on its massive network.
Facebook has come under intense pressure to stop the spread of false stories, which came to notice during the US presidential election last year when many false posts were widely shared on it and other social media services. Facebook suspended 30,000 accounts in France before the first round of its presidential election last month. The company has been testing technology that identifies if people read an article but do not share it with their friends, which may suggest the story is misleading. "With these changes, we expect we will also reduce the spread of material generated through inauthentic activity, including spam, misinformation, or other deceptive content that is often shared by creators of fake accounts," Facebook said. I think it is a good idea taking this issue into consideration and reacting to it seriously for once. The ‘fake news’ issue has been on facebook for quite a bit now and it was starting to get a little out of hand now it is good they are getting stricter and suspending accounts. I think not just facebook but all the other social media apps also need to get strict and have proper security that doesn’t let people post false news.
