A recent article on The Radio Nz tells us that new zealand that a massive cyber attack has infected a number of organisations around the world. Computers in thousands of locations have been locked by a programme, WannaCry, that demands $300 in Bitcoin.
There have been reports of infections in as many as 74 countries, including several in New Zealand, a live-tracking map of the attack shows. Many security researchers are linking the incidents together. Hospitals and doctors surgeries in parts of England have been forced to turn away patients and cancel appointments. People in affected areas were being advised to seek medical care only in emergencies. Some security researchers have pointed out that the infections seem to spread by a worm a programme that spreads by itself between computers. This issue is getting worse and spreading quickly everywhere. The researchers need to quickly find a way to stop this cyber attack because it is causing medical problems too. There must be some way to stop this cyber attack. I hope the organisations find a solution to this as soon as possible before it spreads even more.

I recent article i read was about a girl that was assaulted over the colour of her hair and how her mother wants the bully to be expelled.
Jacqui George has made a complaint with police over the alleged assault after her 14-year-old daughter's hair was yanked so hard scabs formed on her scalp, Fairfax reported. The girl was also punched in the head by the Nelson College for Girls Year 9 student who was stood down for three days by the school. "I'm going to fight it until that bully is expelled so my daughter feels safe at school. I don't see why my daughter should leave a school that she loves learning at," she told Fairfax. "It should be the bully that leaves." I personally think not enough is being done. The mother of the girl is correct if the bully doesn’t get expelled it’s sending the wrong message to everyone else. They will think it’s ok to bully someone because there are no consequences. The school should take an action against this. As Tangaroa Samuels hit another man across the back of head with a plank of wood, the 22-year-old aggressor was urged on by his mother sitting in a car outside the Whangarei home.
After the baseball-type swing struck Shane Lemon on the back of the head he dropped to the ground outside his house where he lived with his partner and three grandchildren. "That's what you get when you f*** with the wrong family," Samuels said. Lemon was rushed to Whangarei Hospital in a serious condition but was soon flown to Auckland where he had surgery to stop the bleeding and pressure on his brain. The blow left him unable to walk or talk or recognise his own daughter. Samuels is now sentenced for nine years and six months. I feel like the nine year sentence is a decent amount of consequence for someone like samuel. Samuel is a dangerous man and the community needed to be protected from him. What is horrifying is that during the course of this incident and at the time he hit this poor man, his mother was in the car urging him on. I read a really interesting article about A law in France banning the use of unhealthily thin fashion models that has come into effect.
Models will need to provide a doctor's certificate attesting to their overall physical health, with regard to their body mass index a measure of weight in relation to height. The health ministry says the aim is to fight eating disorders and inaccessible ideals of beauty. “Exposing young people to normative and unrealistic images of bodies leads to a sense of self-depreciation and poor self-esteem that can impact health-related behaviour," said France's Minister of Social Affairs and Health, Marisol Touraine, French media report. I think this is a great idea. Anorexia affects between 30,000 to 40,000 people in France, 90 percent of whom are women. And this new law may relate in some way or another to women and people in general who suffer from Anorexia. France has put a ban on keeping whales, dolphins and porpoises in captivity, excluding only orcas and bottlenose dolphins already held.
The government also banned the breeding of dolphins and killer whales, effectively preventing any increase in the number of captive marine mammals. The association of French zoos complained they had not been consulted on the ban, but animal rights activists said it was a "historic French advance". The ban on captive breeding would eventually lead to the end of "marine circuses" in the country. Environment Minister Segolene Royal decided to tighten the rules further and ban captive breeding completely after finding out that "some animals were drugged" in aquariums, the ministry told the AFP news agency. I think this may be a good idea. Because The new rules also ban direct contact between animals and the public, including swimming with dolphins, and require pools holding the animals to be made significantly larger. Although that may say bad and disappointing but there can be issues regarding the breeding of not just dolphins but any animals. A Russian blogger has been given a three-and-a-half year suspended sentence after he posted a video of himself playing Pokemon Go in a church.
The court in the city of Yekaterinburg found Ruslan Sokolovsky guilty of insulting religious believers. During the trial, Sokolovsky, now aged 22, had pleaded not guilty. He filmed himself playing the popular game pokemon go in the local Orthodox church in August 2016. He was arrested shortly afterwards. On Thursday, Sokolovsky was also found guilty of "illegal trafficking of special technical equipment" after a pen with a built-in video camera had been discovered during the search of his home. During the trial, the prosecution had asked for Sokolovsky to be jailed for three and a half years. Pokemon go led to so many accidents last year, such as a boy who was playing pokemon go on the motorway and died, also little children who got kidnapped from ‘pokemon go stops’. And this isn’t all that different it is an addicting game. Although i feel like the russian blogger did get a decent consequence as what he did was disrespectful and as mentioned in the article itself it is “insulting religious believers”. There was a recent article about an Ex-Kiwi model Sophia Nash that has been discharged without conviction for stealing a $20 fake Dior handbag from a Mt Eden charity shop.
During the judge-alone trial, the court heard from the store manager, Helen Ravlich, who said she saw Nash, who was a volunteer, leave the shop with the bag tucked under her arm. To be sure, Ravlich said she waited until Nash returned to the shop and went downstairs to give her time to go look in her car. But Nash said she rushed from the store because her Range Rover, which she was still paying off, was parked in a 60-minute zone. I think this isn’t fair the fact that any normal person would have to face consequence for stealing but just because she is a celebrity she gets away with it. This shouldn’t be the way things should go. Just because they are celebrities doesn’t mean they should get treated differently to normal people and not have to face the consequences for a crime. I read a new article on Al Jazeera News about Facebook deleting "tens of thousands" of accounts and making changes to its newsfeed in an attempt to fight fake news, responding to criticism over the distribution of false information on its massive network.
Facebook has come under intense pressure to stop the spread of false stories, which came to notice during the US presidential election last year when many false posts were widely shared on it and other social media services. Facebook suspended 30,000 accounts in France before the first round of its presidential election last month. The company has been testing technology that identifies if people read an article but do not share it with their friends, which may suggest the story is misleading. "With these changes, we expect we will also reduce the spread of material generated through inauthentic activity, including spam, misinformation, or other deceptive content that is often shared by creators of fake accounts," Facebook said. I think it is a good idea taking this issue into consideration and reacting to it seriously for once. The ‘fake news’ issue has been on facebook for quite a bit now and it was starting to get a little out of hand now it is good they are getting stricter and suspending accounts. I think not just facebook but all the other social media apps also need to get strict and have proper security that doesn’t let people post false news. I read a fairly interesting article on The Daily Mail recently which was about A new breathing mask that filters out air-pollution has been developed by a New York based startup.
The clear, plastic mask allows people to see the person who is wearing it’s face, and can be reused every day, unlike paper air pollution masks that need to be constantly replaced. The mask is even able to record air quality data and collect it for analysis, which could help researchers develop ways to better protect people from air pollution. Air pollution is linked to seven million premature deaths annually, according to the World Health Organization. 'We created a modern hi-tech solution that makes clean air available to everybody.' they said. The mask doesn't need to be airtight to block out air pollution because it's designed in such a way that the air circulating inside it keeps chemicals away from the nose and mouth. The mask will be priced at $100, which could make it appealing to sectors that encounter air pollution regularly, such as construction, painting and fire rescue. I think this is a really cool thing that can be helpful to many people in fact to everyone. Because as mentioned in the article pollution is a massive problem all over the world and thousands of people die because of it. This mask could really be a common thing in the future and be helpful for people. I recently read a shocking article about An eight-year-old boy who took his own life just two days after he was beaten unconscious by his classmates.
Gabriel 'Gabe' Taye was found dead in his bedroom by his mother Cornelia Reynolds on January 26. At the time, officials at Carson Elementary School told her there was no evidence of bullying and that Gabe had simply fainted. But a video has since emerged showing the eight-year-old being attacked by his classmates in the school bathroom. footage, which has not been publicly released, shows a boy in the bathroom, "punching and threatening and assaulting other children, and the son of my client walks in," the family attorney Jennifer Branch said "He actually attempts to shake the assailant's hand, and the assailant pulled him forward and slammed him into the wall, and he is knocked unconscious for seven-and-a-half minutes." This leaves me heartbroken. This is so devastating just thinking about the little boy’s mum and him as well. This is serious and really shocking and it should spread more awareness because they are so many cases like these which go unnoticed. I think the school didn’t do enough in fact they didn’t do anything. This is a major concern i personally feel not enough is being done. |
